The visa section of this website is designed to inform you about the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations and policies. We will work closely with you to advise you and provide updated information about issues affecting your student status. Walk-In Advising Hours
Walk-in visa advising hours for Fall 2014 session are 2-4 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. No appointment is needed during walk-in hours. Student can make an in-person, phone, or Skype appointment outside walk-in hours by emailing email@example.com.
When the Office is Closed
Immigration-Related Issues and Questions (Non-Emergency)
Travel Signatures If you are leaving the U.S. before the office reopens or you are already overseas and in need of a travel signature, please complete a shipping request via eShipGlobal (instructions below) and email your international student advisor to request a new I-20/DS-2019. The immigration document will be issued and sent to you when the office reopens.
- Register for an account with eShipGlobal
- Login to your account
- Click on "Receive a Package from Universities"
- Enter "Georgetown University" or Select "District of Columbia DC"
- Click on "Georgetown Law Graduate Programs"
- Enter the address where you want your I-20 or DS-2019 Form to be mailed. (If you do not know you student ID, you can use "12345" as your ID.)
- Once you have entered your address information, click on "Ship/Quote"
- On the next screen, verify that your address is correct. Input your credit card information and select "Confirm Shipment"
- Once you have confirmed your shipment online, Graduate Programs will receive notification of your request and will mail your I-20 or DS-2019 Form as soon as it is issued. You will receive an email from eShipGlobal with your tracking number when the document has been mailed to you.
Lost/Stolen Passport If your passport has been lost or stolen while you are in the United States, please contact your local embassy to apply for a replacement. Please note some embassies require a police report in the case of a stolen passport. If your paper I-94 card has been lost as well, you must file an application with USCIS for a replacement. Contact your international student advisor for assistance.
Visa Delays If you are a new student experiencing administrative processing or other visa delays that may prevent you from receiving your visa by the program start date listed on your immigration document, please inform your international student advisor to discuss your options. If you are a continuing student experiencing delays with your visa renewal, please contact your international student advisor when the office reopens to discuss your situation.
Call the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 202-662-9325. Inform DPS that you are an international student DPS will contact an advisor. Examples of Immigration-Related Emergencies: Trouble at the U.S. Port of Entry, immediate danger of being deported from the U.S.
Current students should report all changes of address through MyAccess within 10 days of any move.
Address & Employment Update Form
This form is for students on post-completion OPT. During the OPT period, students are required to report employer information each time they accept a position as well as any period of unemployment. Please use this form to make the necessary changes to the information Graduate Programs sends to SEVIS (the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System).
Invitation Letter Request Form
During your stay in the United States you may wish to invite extended family members to visit you. If you would like to request an invitation letter from Graduate Programs to assist your family members in obtaining the appropriate entry visas, please complete this form. Processing will take approximately one week. You will receive an email when your letter is ready.
