Georgetown Law Open on Time
The Law Center will open on time, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, but liberal leave is in effect.
All designated emergency employees must report to work on time. All other employees may take unscheduled leave, but should contact their supervisor to discuss the needs of their unit and individual circumstances. Classes will begin at their normal time, unless otherwise noted on the class cancellation line: 202-662-9446 or the class cancellation page. Any changes to this announcement will be communicated through the same channels by 5:00 am on Tuesday morning.
Academic Support and Tutoring
Students who are having difficulties with their academic studies may request an individual advising session with the Director of Academic Enhancement Programs. Appointments may be made throughout the academic year. Individual sessions cover class preparation, note taking, outlining, exam preparation, and exam taking but do not cover specific subjects.
Students interested in receiving feedback on the writing process and written work can make an appointment at the Writing Center.
The First-Year J.D. Tutorial Program provides individual subject tutoring to first-year students and is provided at no cost to them. Tutors are upperclass students who performed well academically in their first years and have an interest in helping current first-year students do the same. When possible, students are assigned tutors who had the same professor in the course at issue. The tutor and student devise a mutually convenient schedule for meetings and generally meet for an average of one to two hours per week.
To request a tutor, a student must meet with the Director of Academic Enhancement Programs in order to assess a student's academic needs and request for tutorial assistance. Students can be paired with tutors as early as the first semester if tutorial assistance would best serve the student in the area of concern. In the second semester, first semester grades are evaluated as part of the assessment process. There is no minimum course grade or minimum GPA for second semester tutoring. However, the program prioritizes those most in need, and tutorial assistance is not meant to be used as a general study aid.
