October 22, 2012 — “It’s terrific to hear how faculty members changed your life,” said Dean William M. Treanor as he concluded the Golden Years Luncheon on Friday, October 20, the first day of Reunion Weekend 2012. Treanor, who hosted the event, was responding to alumni tales of such esteemed professors as the late Doc Jaeger, Chester Antieau and Kenneth Pye.

Bob Barr (L’77), the former U.S. representative from Georgia who was back on campus Friday to celebrate his 35th reunion, noted in a separate event that he tried to carry many of the qualities of his Georgetown Law professors into practice, including those of the late Charles Ruff (H’96). Barr was interviewed by Student Bar Association President Shaun Zhang (L’13).

The theme of excellence continued at Saturday’s Reunion Gala at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture, when five alumni were honored with the Paul Dean Award for their outstanding contributions to the Law Center and the legal world: former federal prosecutor John “Sean” Coffey (L’87); former U.S. Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (C’93, L’97, M.A.’98, Ph.D.’03); Judge Anita M. Josey-Herring (L’87) of the D.C. Superior Court; David “Duke” Reyes (L’82) of Reyes Beverage group; and Philadelphia district attorney R. Seth Williams (L’92).

Earlier on Saturday, alumni gathered to share stories, see friends and enjoy a “Taste of D.C.” event on the Tower Green — sampling everything from empanadas to crab cakes. They also watched Dean Treanor interview political analyst Christine Niedermeier (L’77), Larry Patrick of Patrick Communications (L’79) and the Huffington Post’s Supreme Court reporter Michael Sacks (L’10).

“If it were not for Georgetown Law, I surely would not have had the opportunities that I have had,” said Sacks, who began to cover Court cases when he was a student here.

Other “back to school” events included a look at the Affordable Care Act decision, the current Supreme Court term and law firm leadership. The annual Black Law Students Association Lunch on Sunday rounded out the weekend.
